In Windsor, French Immersion at the Greater Essex County public board can start as early as Junior Kindergarten, with Kindergarten taught in French. Many families start Immersion before anyone at home speaks French, and that's normal.

The curriculum, the tests, the school boards and the French options your child's tutor will work with.
Windsor schools follow the Ontario curriculum. Elementary students get a fall progress report, a winter report card and a final report card in June. Your board sets the dates.
EQAO tests reading, writing and math in Grades 3 and 6, and math in Grade 9. High school students also write the OSSLT in Grade 10, which they need to pass to graduate.
The Greater Essex County DSB runs English public schools and the Windsor-Essex Catholic DSB runs English Catholic schools. Conseil scolaire Viamonde and Conseil scolaire catholique Providence run French-language schools in the area.
GECDSB students can begin French Immersion in Junior or Senior Kindergarten, where all instruction is in French. JK and SK students can join at any point in the school year.
