One rule to know: don't tutor students you currently teach at school.

Your ID and your privacy

Why we ask for your government ID

Every educator is checked before they meet a student. Here's what we ask for, why we ask, and what families can and can't see.

What we check, and why

✓
Your ID confirms you're the teacher named on your certificate.
✓
We work with children, so every tutor is verified before a first lesson.
✓
Verification also prevents fraud and keeps your payments secure.

Parents never see your ID, email or home address. They see your photo, bio, certification, subjects and availability. For in-person lessons they see a general area, never your address.

Upload your ID through the platform only. We don't accept documents by email.

Certification

What it means to be a certified teacher in Manitoba

Manitoba has no college of teachers. Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning's Professional Certification Unit issues certificates, and an independent Commissioner of Teacher Professional Conduct handles complaints. A certified Manitoba teacher meets these four requirements.

Education

A degree and teacher education

An approved teacher education program that meets Manitoba's Teaching Certificates and Qualifications Regulation. Manitoba B.Ed. graduates apply directly.

Official source
Safety

A background check

A Manitoba Child Abuse Registry check and a Canadian criminal record check that includes a vulnerable sector search. To tutor with Connect Education, you also need a police check that includes a vulnerable sector check.

Official source
Also required

Abuse prevention training

An approved sexual abuse prevention program, such as Respect in Schools or Commit to Kids, required since November 12, 2024.

Official source
Good standing

On the public registry

Since January 6, 2025, families can look up certified teachers on Manitoba's public Registry of Certified Teachers and School Clinicians. Retired from teaching? You can still apply with a valid police check that includes a vulnerable sector check.

Official source

Also welcome to apply

Supply teachers, registered ECEs and retired teachers tutor with us too. Here's what each needs.

Supply teachers

Occasional and long-term occasional teachers apply with the same certificate in good standing. Tutoring fits around the days you're called in.

Registered ECEs

Early childhood educators registered with their provincial ECE regulator, in good standing, are welcome, especially for early learning.

Retired teachers

Retired and no longer renewing your membership? You can still apply with a valid police check that includes a vulnerable sector check.

Most requested

Manitoba schools reported 224,724 students on October 1, 2025, and more than 30,000 of them attend the Winnipeg School Division alone. Here's what parents ask about:

  • Math and English language arts help built on the Manitoba curriculum, especially in the early and middle years.
  • Senior years math and science support, when courses get harder and marks start to count.
  • French homework for Immersion students and for the 6,447 students in the Division scolaire franco-manitobaine.
  • Students with an IEP or a learning difference, whose parents want a teacher with that experience.

In Winnipeg, every public library branch has free Wi-Fi during opening hours. Check the branch's rules before you book a meeting space.

Questions teachers ask

How much can I charge, and what does it cost to join?

You set your own rate. Joining is free. When you teach, a platform service fee of 25% of each session rate comes out of the amount charged, and it covers the platform, payments and admin, so you never chase an invoice.

Can I tutor students in French in Manitoba?

Yes, if you teach in French. Add French and your grades to your profile, and families in French Immersion or francophone schools can find you.

Do I need to finish the abuse prevention training to apply?

Manitoba now requires it for certification, so most certified teachers have already done it. On our side, we ask for your certificate details and your police check.

Do I need a car to tutor in person?

No. Many teachers tutor online only, or meet families at a library branch they can reach by transit. You choose the areas you'll travel to, so you only get requests that work for you.

Can I teach online only?

Yes. Online only works well, especially for families outside Winnipeg. You can add library or home sessions later if you want to.

How long does approval take?

Most of the wait is the document check. Clear, current documents with the same legal name on each are the fastest route, and we'll let you know by email.
