One rule to know: don't tutor students you currently teach at school.

Your ID and your privacy

Why we ask for your government ID

Every educator is checked before they meet a student. Here's what we ask for, why we ask, and what families can and can't see.

What we check, and why

✓
Your ID confirms you're the teacher named on your certificate.
✓
We work with children, so every tutor is verified before a first lesson.
✓
Verification also prevents fraud and keeps your payments secure.

Parents never see your ID, email or home address. They see your photo, bio, certification, subjects and availability. For in-person lessons they see a general area, never your address.

Upload your ID through the platform only. We don't accept documents by email.

What it means to be a certified teacher in Manitoba

Manitoba teachers are certified by the Professional Certification Unit of Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning. A certified Manitoba teacher meets these four requirements.

Education

A degree and teacher education

A bachelor's degree plus a Bachelor of Education of at least 60 credit hours, including student teaching, for at least 150 credit hours in total.

Official source
Safety

A background check

Manitoba asks for a Child Abuse Registry check and a criminal record check that includes a vulnerable sector search, both dated within six months. To tutor with Connect Education, you also need a police check that includes a vulnerable sector check.

Official source
Also required

Abuse prevention program

An approved sexual abuse prevention program, Respect in Schools or Commit to Kids, required for all applicants since November 12, 2024.

Official source
Good standing

On the public registry

Since January 2025, families can look up certified teachers on Manitoba's public Registry of Certified Teachers and School Clinicians. Retired, or your certificate is no longer active? You can still apply with a valid police check that includes a vulnerable sector check.

Official source

Also welcome to apply

Supply teachers, registered ECEs and retired teachers tutor with us too. Here's what each needs.

Supply teachers

Occasional and long-term occasional teachers apply with the same certificate in good standing. Tutoring fits around the days you're called in.

Registered ECEs

Early childhood educators registered with their provincial ECE regulator, in good standing, are welcome, especially for early learning.

Retired teachers

Retired and no longer renewing your membership? You can still apply with a valid police check that includes a vulnerable sector check.

Questions teachers ask

How much can I charge, and what does it cost to join?

You set your own rate. Joining is free. When you teach, a platform service fee of 25% of each session rate comes out of the amount charged, and it covers the platform, payments and admin, so you never chase an invoice.

Can I help students prepare for Grade 12 provincial tests?

Yes. The Grade 12 tests in English language arts and math count for 20% of the final grade, so families often ask for review. List the courses you teach in your profile.

Can I tutor French Immersion students in Winnipeg?

Yes, if you teach in French. Add French and your grades to your profile, and families in Immersion programs can find you.

Do I need a car to tutor in person?

No. Many teachers tutor online only, or meet families at a library branch they can reach by transit. You choose the areas you'll travel to, so you only get requests that work for you.

Can I tutor students I teach at school?

No. Don't tutor your own current students for pay, and check your school division's rules about outside work. Your professional standards still apply when you tutor.

How long does approval take?

Most of the wait is the document check. Clear, current documents with the same legal name on each are the fastest route, and we'll let you know by email.
