Personalized tutoring
for CAF-connected youth

This program provides virtual one-to-one academic tutoring for children of Canadian Armed Forces families. The goal is to help students maintain academic progress despite relocations, curriculum changes, or transitions between schools. Tutoring supports core subjects and helps students strengthen skills, prepare for exams, or adjust to a new curriculum. All tutoring sessions are delivered online by certified teachers through Connect Education.

Up to 15 Sessions
Eligible youth can receive up to 15 tutoring sessions in either English or French.

Curriculum Support
to help them boost their learning in core subject areas, to help transition to a new curriculum, or prepare for exams and standardized tests.

Certified Teachers
Receive tutoring from a certified teacher who is a subject expert and familiar with the curriculum in your area.

This program is subject to available funding. The program may close without notice once the available funding has been exhausted.

Timing

Participants are expected to use their tutoring sessions at the time of application. For example, applications cannot be submitted in the fall for tutoring sessions starting in the spring.

Breaks

If participants choose to take a prolonged break in their support, they will be encouraged to reapply to the program if they require more tutoring later in the school year.

Able to participate in 45–60 min virtual online tutoring sessions
Currently in K (maternelle) – Grade 12 (secondaire V)

✦  Participation in one of these programs precludes applicants from participating in the other.

What is the Military Family Services School-Aged Academic Support Program?

This program provides virtual one-to-one academic tutoring for children of Canadian Armed Forces families.
The goal is to help students maintain academic progress despite relocations, curriculum changes, or transitions between schools. Tutoring supports core subjects and helps students strengthen skills, prepare for exams, or adjust to a new curriculum.
All tutoring sessions are delivered online by certified teachers through Connect Education.

Can students participate in multiple military tutoring programs?

No. Students may participate in only one of the following programs:
- Military Family Services School-Aged Academic Support Program
- Support Our Troops Tutoring Reimbursement Program
Participation in one program makes the student ineligible for the other.

Who is eligible for the program?

The program is available to children and youth of active Canadian Armed Forces members.
Students must be:
- Currently enrolled in Kindergarten to Grade 12 (Secondary 5)
- Able to participate in online tutoring sessions
- Approved through the Military Family Services eligibility process
- Students can live anywhere in Canada or abroad.

How do families apply for the program?

Families must complete:
- An online application form
- A school recommendation form completed by school staff
- Provide a CFOne number to verify eligibility
Applications open April 1, 2026 and remain available while funding lasts.

What happens after my child is approved?

After eligibility is confirmed:
1. Connect Education contacts the family.
2. An introductory meeting may be scheduled.
3. A diagnostic assessment is shared to understand the student’s learning needs.
4. A certified teacher is matched with the student.
5. Tutoring sessions are scheduled.
This process helps ensure tutoring is targeted and effective from the first session.

How many tutoring sessions can my child receive?

Eligible students can receive up to 15 tutoring sessions depending on program availability and funding.
Each session typically lasts 45 to 60 minutes and is delivered one-to-one with a certified teacher.

What subjects are supported?

Tutoring focuses on core academic subjects. Tutoring may also support students enrolled in International Baccalaureate (IB), Advanced Placement (AP), or other specialized programs.

Are the tutors certified teachers?

Yes, all educators delivering sessions are certified teachers experienced with school curriculum across Canada.
Many tutors also have experience supporting students with: ADHD, ALTA, Asperger's, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Behavior Disorders, CERI, Cerebral Palsy, Concussion, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Down Syndrome, Dyslexia, IMSLEC, Individual Education Plan, Learning Disabilities, Learning Disabilities (Other), Medical Disabilities, Mobility Disabilities, Montessori, Orton-Gillingham Academy, Psychiatric Disabilities, Sensory Processing Disorder, TBI and PTSD, and Visual Impairments.

How are students matched with a tutor?

Connect Education matches students with tutors based on:
- Grade level
- Subject needs
- Curriculum
- Language preference (English or French)
- Time zone and availability
- Learning needs or accommodations
This ensures students are paired with the most appropriate teacher for their academic needs.

Do students complete an assessment?

Yes. Students complete a diagnostic assessment at the start of tutoring to identify learning gaps and guide instruction.
Progress may be reviewed throughout the program to ensure tutoring remains effective.

What happens during tutoring sessions?

Tutoring sessions are fully virtual and include:
- Reviewing school material
- Practicing academic skills
- Explaining concepts using interactive tools
- Supporting homework or assignments
- Building confidence and learning strategies
Sessions are personalized to the student’s current learning level and goals.

How are tutoring sessions delivered?

All tutoring sessions are delivered virtually through Zoom using an interactive whiteboard. This allows tutors and students to work together in real time while sharing documents, solving problems, and reviewing learning materials.

What is the cancellation policy for tutoring sessions?

+

To respect both family schedules and teacher availability, we ask that any session changes be made at least 24 hours in advance.
If a session is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, the session may still count as one of the student’s allocated tutoring sessions because the teacher has already reserved that time.
If your family has upcoming schedule changes, please inform a teacher as early as possible so they can adjust the tutoring schedule accordingly.
This helps us maintain a consistent learning schedule for your child while ensuring teachers can manage their availability effectively.

How do I join and start tutoring?

Joining our community of certified educators is simple. Set up your account, and upload your teacher credentials. Our platform is exclusive to certified educators in good standing with their provincial/state regulatory body.

Your credentials must recognize to teach in a classroom, public, or private school setting.

Can I set my own prices?

You have complete autonomy on how to set your prices.

Are there costs involved?

+

There is no cost to join our community. However, once a contract is agreed upon, we have a 15% processing fee that comes out of the total amount charged by the educator. This fee covers any admin fees and platform fees. Remember, we do all the administrative work for you through the platform.

How and when do I receive my payment?

Payments for lessons completed will be received by E-transfer. Please ensure your account information is always up to date. Funds will be released to you at the end of the contract or 30th of every month . Lessons that take place later than 5 days prior to the payment date will not be included in that particular payment.

Why do you need my date of birth?

We need an accurate date of birth in order to verify your credentials.

I need to reschedule a lesson

For rescheduling, please refer to our Cancellations & Rescheduling Policy. Additionally, please use the chat feature to coordinate the new date with the parent or student.

The student did not show up for the lesson

+

Our system allows parents to reschedule lessons within 48 hours of the lesson. We value everyone’s time and efforts. If the student does not show up for the lesson, the teacher is still compensated for that lesson. Please refer to our Cancellations & Rescheduling Policy.

I want to disable my account; how do I do that?

Please contact support to disable or delete your account.

Can I cancel a contract?

+

Do I need to pay to use this service?

+

There is no cost to create a profile and be matched to clients. We only charge a 15% fee from what you earnafter you are paid for your services.

How do I select where I teach?

You can select the locations and range of where you want to teach in your profile. All of your student matches will be within your chosen location range.

What happens if a parent/student decides to cancel the contract?

+

Once the payment has been processed, the contract for the services begins. We ask parents to carefully review and select the teacher or ECE they want to work with to avoid the dispute resolution process. However, if a parent or student decides that they want to cancel a contract, they will need to open a ticket with support and follow the dispute resolution process. Can I switch to in-person or virtual lessons?

At what times should we be available?

Each teacher sets their own schedule and availability.

What steps do you implement to safeguard private information?

Ensuring the safety and security of your documents is a top priority for us. Our system is designed to encrypt and safeguard any documents you submit. Additionally, we adhere to strict privacy policies and only use your information for the purpose of verifying your teaching credentials. You can read more about our privacy and security policy here.

Would I start immediately once I get matched with a parent?

Once you get matched to a student, the schedule is mutually agreed upon by you and the parent.

Why do I need to provide my personal information?

Providing identification is a crucial step in our verification process, ensuring a secure and trustworthy learning environment for all users. It also helps to confirm that you are indeed the person registering and not someone attempting to impersonate you.

What is the platform's cancellation policy?

Does Connect Education reimburse teachers for the costs of their documents, such as a vulnerable sector check?

+

Connect Education does not reimburse these costs. Connect Education is not an employer, we are a marketplace platform that connects certified teachers directly with families for private tutoring. As an independent professional, you are your own boss on the platform, and each teacher is responsible for covering their own professional requirements, including the vulnerable sector check.On our side, we cover the costs of maintaining the platform, marketing, and ensuring families have access to a trusted network of vetted educators. This model allows teachers to maintain independence while benefiting from the exposure and support that Connect Education provides.
