English for School, Work and Life, at Any Age

Children and teens get one-on-one help with the English they need at school, from speaking up in class to reading textbooks and writing assignments. Adults build English for work, everyday life, further studies or a language test. Every lesson is built around the learner's own goals, at a pace that builds confidence.

School ESL support is valuable, but it is shared with many students and time is limited. Adult classes often move too fast or too slow, or skip the English you actually need at work. One-on-one time with a certified teacher closes that gap faster, because every minute is spent on the learner's own goals.

  • Speaking and listening practice in a relaxed setting, so learners feel safe making mistakes.
  • For children and teens: reading, vocabulary and writing for school subjects, matched to what the class is studying.
  • For adults: English for job interviews, the workplace, emails and everyday conversations, plus CELPIP or IELTS practice where the teacher offers it.

Every tutor is a licensed teacher in good standing. Not every teacher holds ESL training, so we aim to match ESL learners with teachers who have ESL training or experience.

How ESL tutoring helps

1

Speak from the first minute

Every session includes real conversation, so learners hear their own progress.

2

Language for real life

Lessons use your learner's own homework, workplace or daily situations, so new words get used right away.

3

Clear, kind correction

The teacher explains the pattern behind a mistake, so the same error stops coming back.

Signs your child, or you, could use ESL support

Most families notice it at homework time or when a report card comes home.

01

Quiet in class

Your child understands more than they say but rarely speaks up in class or with friends.

02

Stuck at work

You follow meetings in English, but speaking up, writing emails or handling calls still feels hard.

03

Marks lag behind ability

Report card comments mention language, even though your child understands the material.

04

A test or course ahead

CELPIP, IELTS or a college program needs a higher English level, and progress feels stuck.

ESL support that grows with your learner, from Kindergarten to adulthood

Whether your child is starting school in Canada or you are building English for work, a certified teacher meets your learner where they are. Teachers are trained in pedagogy, the practice of teaching. For school-age learners they follow the province's curriculum, so lessons connect to what happens in class, and adults work toward their own goals, from a job interview to a language test.

Kindergarten to Grade 3

Everyday words, listening to stories, phonics and letter sounds, simple sentences and speaking with classmates.

Young learners build the English they need to join in, make friends and start reading with confidence.

Grades 4 to 6

Reading comprehension, school vocabulary for science and social studies, paragraph writing, grammar basics and presenting to the class.

Support that connects to school language programs such as Ontario's ESL and ELD programs, BC's English Language Learning (ELL) services and Alberta's English as an Additional Language (EAL) support.

Grades 7 and 8

Academic vocabulary, reading novels and textbooks, writing longer pieces, note-taking and joining class discussions.

The teacher can build on your child's school language profile, such as an Ontario STEP (Steps to English Proficiency) level, to target the next step.

Grades 9 and 10

Essay structure, reading for high school courses, research skills, grammar for academic writing and oral presentations.

Support for high school ESL courses such as Ontario's ESLAO to ESLEO, and for English language learner programs in BC, Alberta and other provinces.

Older students and adults get focused practice for their next step, from a first Canadian job to post-secondary studies.

A higher standard of tutoring

Knowing a subject isn't the same as knowing how to teach it

Teaching is a profession. Certified teachers are trained in how students learn, so they spot the gaps, adapt the explanation and build the skills your child needs to move forward with confidence.
